  • Climb the mountains not just to reach the top, but to remember how it feels to be free.
  • Look up! Strawberry Moon rises over Pacific Ocean.

Despite the name, it does not appear pink or red, unless when it is seen low on the horizon. The name merely suggests it’s a full moon in June, and the term comes from Native American traditions, signifying that wild strawberries are ripe and ready to be harvested.

This year the strawberry moon is special in one way only: it is “the lowest” in next 18 years. It doesn’t mean that it is closer to Earth, it only means that it will not rise as high from the horizon as it usually does. Not so exciting as click bait news headers make it sound, eh?

East Sooke is known for its ancient petroglyphs, especially the ones at Alldridge Point beach—believed to have been carved by the Salish Nation as far back as 3,000 years ago. Legends tell of a giant seal figure etched into the rock, said to represent an elephant seal who served as a spiritual ‘game warden’—ensuring the community’s fishing practices remained bountiful but respectful.

While digging for more than just travel blog info, I came across something cool—apparently there are two more petroglyph sites in the park, but they’re only accessible by water. Since this is a regional park, and regional parks usually don’t have blanket drone bans (unless specified), I’m guessing it’s not a strict no-fly zone… right? 😉

That said, the highlight of the trip for me wasn’t even the petroglyphs—it was the stunning Coastal Trail. That place leaves a lasting impression. Already looking forward to the next visit.

Hot air balloons in Oregon.🎈

How hot is the hot air ballon?
Well, the air inside the balloon is heated to around 100°C (212°F), it becomes lighter than the cooler air outside, generating lift. So the fabric of the balloon is made from ripstop nylon or polyester, which can withstand temperatures over 120°C (250°F) near the burner.

How the hot air balloon is steered?
Pilots control altitude using propane burners and use different wind directions at various altitudes to “steer.” The engineering challenge is in reading wind patterns and using vertical control to catch the right currents.
